Kinnie,
My prayers are with you and your father-in-law.

Sorry you couldn't make the Red Cross ride in Rocky Mount. It was a good ride
and the weather was good, but I do have a couple of recommendations that I
believe would be improvements:

1. Their on site registration is very disorganized and uncoordinated. They
could take some lessons from the Scotland Neck ride group. It took 20 or 30
minutes to complete registration in Rocky Mount compared to less than 5 minutes
in Scotland Neck. Preferably they should have their waiver as part of the
registration form rather than a second form. If they continue to have it as a
second form, they should at least have the two forms together so you can
complete all forms in one sitting.

2. The route turn arrows were very prominent and easy to see at most
intersections, but some of the turns were almost missed due to the fact that
there was only one arrow leading up to the turn and it was placed only a few
feet before the turn. They need to have additional arrows about 100 yards
before the turns, especially left turns.

Glad you enjoyed the event. They are already trying to think of ways to make
improvements for next year. If you have any suggestions please pass them on.
Sounds like making sure the motorcycles know the route, would be a good start.

I'm sorry I was unable to join in the fun. "Grandpa" (father-in-law) is still
battling. He is receiving a morphine "dose" every hour now. (Bone cancer.) I
just have to trust God knows what He is doing. Prayers are appreciated. :) kp

Great ride and event. Provided krispy kreme doughnuts and biscuitville
biscuits for breakfast, pizza for lunch, gatorade before and after, clean
bathrooms and even a band post race.

Good ride report Ronnie. My son would like me to add we saw two dead snakes on
road too.

Steve Thomas, James Lamm and I went to RM for the ride there. Steve and I did
the metric, not sure
what James did. We didn't see him at the start line for the metric folks.
Anyway, the day started out what I thought was bad as my speed censor rubber
band broke, thus no speed or distanc
tracking. All I had was cadence & heart rate. Steve's speed sensor were on his
stolen bike, so none there either. We started out with a fairly large group 16
or so total. We (Steve and I) just drafted along with them at whatever pace
they were going. Eventually, by mile 20 or so, the main group started splitting
apart, (by that time we had done a fair share of pulling ourselves). And then
there were 5. The 5 of us completely dropped everyone else for the remainder of
the ride. We were the first back to the start and when we asked Jeff (from RM,
rides with Johnny)he said our average for the ride was 21.8. Perhaps not
knowing your speed is a good thing sometimes. The deputy that escorted us the
entire route cut us off about 8 miles early and offered to make it up
so we took a slightly different route that made up about 4 or 5 of what he
shorted us earlier. So we ended up with about 58 miles.

Steve and I then came back to Wilson and rode another 28 from Starbucks at a
slightly slower pace, bringing the total miles to about 86. Great day for
riding.

Congratulations to all those who competed in the BH triathlon.

Steve, if I missed anything, feel free to fill in the gaps.

Ronnie
