Congratulations Tim, Jim & Nick! The BG (Susan, Dave, Pete & I) rode to
Bailey, had breakfast, then over to Connor hill via New Sandy Hill church road,
did Connor hill a couple of times, then Buckhorn lake, Rock Ridge School road
and back via Old Raleigh road 44+ mls). I held everyone back because I was
recovering from a virus or something (congestion) and rubbery legs (hadn't
ridden in a week). It was hot but a very enjoyable ride.

James

ho...@#hot!!f@#$%Hot!!!
That pretty much sums it up!
I think there were like 40 riders on the first 65
mile loop. Very pleasant start. Peloton a little shaky heading out
as is always the case with such a ride. Lots of camaraderie with the
mile long double pace line. Just when the peloton was getting in sync,
dog, crash, two riders down. 2 very unhappy riders down. A few words
with the owner but no damage so the ride continues. 65 miles down and Nick
being the only smart CoW decided on heading home. Jim and I were good for
another 55 mile loop.
    Round two. Things started
off well, the heat was rising and we had a slight tail wind as the ride
headed east. I knew the forecast was calling for 10 to 15 mph winds
around lunch with 20 mph gust and I began to see a problem. Rest stop
around mile 92. Jim picked a great day for his first century of
2010. First off it was going to be 120 miles, second was the head wind for
the last 28 miles, third was the 94 degree temps on the last leg. The
peloton was behind schedule and trying to make up time pushing the pace and
dropping riders. A few bailed out at mile 103 calling for the sag
wagon. Jim was feeling the effects but sucked it up and continued
on. Congrats Jim on a great ride! Riders were strung out over the
last 10 miles. Last year there were 21 riders who finished the whole 200
miles but there were only about 10 riders starting out on loop three
this year and they looked a little sketchy! The heat had taken a huge
toll. I'm now throwing down a few recovery drinks as I'm gearing up
for another 200K tomorrow around Kerr Lake! Please rain
tomorrow!
