Not much to add, I took a relaxed approach and decided to enjoy the mountains,
took what the road gave me, soapbox on the downhills, steady comfortable pace
on the climbs,it cost me in the end. Well supported, but no Texaco at the
start, soI had to make an extra stop at a rest stop on the parkway. Climbing
up the snake I thought I had a mechanical problem, turned out to be gravity.
Made the mistake of stopping and getting off the bike. When I tried to get
back on, one pedal stroke and before I could clip in started rolling back down
the mountain. Walked passed the switchback was then able to get back on and
ride over the summit. Filled up the water bottle and headed down the back side
brakes in hand. Passed a lady walking down snake, said ti was too steep for
her. As a result I just missed the cut off time and the fun of two of the last
three climbs. final climb is short but
steep, however knowing it was a short downhill to the finish made it easy.
Great scenery looking forward to next year.
