Great review and good ideas. Discussing the Whirligig ride and its addition to
the annual City festival and the great exploits of Tim L are other things which
could go into a newspaper article. Many other things could be added. Doc

....

.....This can be a great chance to really get some positive press out there for
the coWs. If you guys are serious about growing the group this might help
some.
The best place to pull new riders from though is the people who have expressed
interest by signing up for the coWs googlegroup.

This is my understanding of how the coWs came about.
Cynthia and Kevin have put a lot of effort in promoting cycling to the City.
Kevin
is an ongoing member of the pedestrian/cycling board. They are real familiar
w/the cycling growth here in Wilson. And of course Cynthia established the
coWs googlegroup.
Jim Davis and Dr. Lindsey de Guehery were very instrumental in encouraging the
group rides.
Nick and Ralph have been riding forever as their story goes something like they
met
while riding individually and then started riding together. James Lamm has
been riding forever
also. The cystic fibrosis has held the bike ride fundraiser and I think James
has done this
many times, as has Dave, Pete, Steve, Tim, Susan etal. And dang Pete has done
every CNC
except the 1st, right? Didn't the 'Breakfast Crew' form from the cystic
fibrosis rides?
Next thing you know the group takes off. If any of you long time members have
other history
put it forth so the wdt reporter can get the story correct from the beginning.
Of course we cannot
leave out stardude. His story is unreal--all the rides he and jonO have been
pulling off the past
2 years. Unfreekinreal!

My first brush w/ bikes in Wilson was with Moss's Bike Shop on Tarboro St
downtown. Pete Williams
even referred to it in his BOOK! Back then they where a horse rental (livery)
place. Great book!
Read it! You will be glad you did! http://mepetewilliams.com/ Of course, Mr
Moss did not have road
bikes way back then? Only thing I remember was the schwinn stingray, newspaper
bikes and those
3 wheeled cycles w/a basket in the back.

I think Will and Julia Newton have been very instrumental in organizing Family
bike rides. Would be
great if they could offer their perspective for Ms. Sayewich. One thing I
would suggest is to have
Ms. Saywich provide her rough draft for review by Jim, Doc and Cynthia to make
sure the facts are
correct before publishing. What a great opportunity for the coWs and thanks to
Bradley Hearn of
the wdt for suggesting coverage of a positive human interest story where
Health and Family
fellowship is emphasized.

Saturday ~1pm looks to be ~65deg w/ a fair S(9mph) breeze.
 http://www.accuweather.com/us/nc/wilson/27893/forecast-hourly.asp?fday=3
Great opportunity for those who are really
interested in getting involved in organized bike rides to step outside their
comfort zones and take
a walk on the wild side, said Lou Reed! Why not? Maybe the chance to have 'a'
'b' and 'c' groups
this Saturday? If you are interested post so we will have a feel who might
show.

'a' riders=19+mph ---->35+miles
'b' riders=14-18mph ----<30 mile rides
'c' riders= Family/Social rides. Fellowship. maybe ~5-10miles neighborhood
ride?

Anyone interested?

Natalie Sayewich would like to interview the COWs on Saturday about 30 minutes
before the ride - 12:30 It would be great to have a nice crowd with our COWs
jerseys on. I will be MTBing so can't make it.

I would love to ride tomorrow - lunch ride anyone?
