Lanterne Rouge rolled out of the homestead at 6:00 am as there was no
post from anyone else crazy enough to rise early for a ride. Smoke from
the fires in Pender County was not an issue. Enjoyed a very humid ride
to Pearson's Peak and back to include West Hornes Church. West Hornes
has been cleaned off and lines repainted in places but still very rough.
Around 15 miles at 18 pace.

After today's ride I am limited to my steal frame flat pedal bike until
I get a new set of wheels. My rear wheel is far enough out of true that
I had to open up the rear break caliper to ride this morning and was
noticeably worse at the end of the ride. Hopefully, I can get this
taken care of before the weekend.

I was hoping someone else would write up Saturday's, ride but at the
risk of messing it up, and being late, here goes.
The herd rolled out of OSB at 7:00 with 14 riders for the 2nd Annual
Blood Sweat and Beers ride. I would try to name everyone who rode but
fear I would royally mess that up so I leave that to others. Nick
arrived with "cold podium prizes" that apparently were incentive enough
to create a quick paced ride. The group rolled to Fremont, a route not
frequently enjoyed by the group so someone more experience will need to
fill in with the details. Pulls on the front were limited to 3 minutes
more or less. There was a slight wind on the way out with some passing
clouds to keep things cool. Dale and Wally had to drop after an hour
and return to Wilson early to tend to other obligations and the group
rolled on with 12.

As I recall the distance was 51 miles with a 19 avg. which means at time
the pace was "rolling". Of special note was Turbo Dan's monster pull on
St. Mary Church on the way back in that saw speeds over 28. Post ride
beverages, LR provide a few extra retrieved from the fridge at the
abode. A good round of fellowship rounded out the event. I think the
Green Jersey went to Dan with the pull on St. Mary's and the Polka Dot
Jersey went to Nick with a "take no prisoners" assault on Target Hill.

A great ride, a great group and a great day to be on a bike!
