Fantastic ride today leading into a Christmas break tomorrow.

Good to hear from Big Bob again; we look forward to riding with you again
soon.

Merry Christmas to all. Come join us Monday to help Tim Lucas close
in more on 15K miles for the year.

WILSON: The COWS had a strong heard of six form up this morning as
much more seasonal conditions, a temp around 40 at departure with a Northerly
breeze, put the group in the holiday spirit. Tim, Bob L., Ronnie (complete
with jingle bells), Wallace and LR rolled up Nash to the “Texaco” where Kim
completed the group. After a brief consultation on route selection, the
group settled on straight to Nashville on 58. The wind, while not what it
was yesterday, was still with us as we headed not only up hill but directly
into
it. Everyone took a turn on the front maintaining a steady “jingle like”
pace, Ronnie sleigh bells adding a nice effect. Upon crossing the railroad
tracks in Nashville the group turned left on to East Cross St. and then left on
Alston St. which becomes Old Bailey Hwy. as you head out of town. The
tempo picked up, with the wind now at the back of the riders, with speeds at 20
– 24 (yes the single speed was in fine form again this morning). To avoid
the “jaws of danger” farther down Old Bailey the group turned right on Lindsey
Rd. then right again on Sandy Cross Rd. before turning right once more onto
Vaughn’s Chapel Rd. With the wind and gravity working for the peloton the
ride was noted to be a much more enjoyable today than on Friday riding in the
opposite direction. Across 97, through Clifftonville and in via Nash St.
completed the ride at 35 miles and an 18.5 avg. Turbo Dan gave a surprise
welcome to the group as it pulled into DD where he and his wife were enjoying a
morning coffee. Ronnie and Wallace had to move on to other obligations,
Kim having pulled off earlier, while Tim, Bob L. and LR joined Dan and his wife
for coffee, post ride analysis and Christmas well wishes. Upon leaving for
home Tim and LR were “politely buzzed” by Tim S. who had no good reason for not
joining in the mornings festivities. All exchanged a hearty “Merry
Christmas”. A great day to be on a bike and great way to begin the
Yule Tide!

I am out tomorrow, most of the group indicated they would be out as
well. I have one more day off on Monday before returning to work so who is
in for a “Boxing Day Ride”? Turbo Dan, Bob L. and Tim all said they were
in. Who else?

I must echo Big Bob’s sentiments, Merry Christmas to all and to all a good
ride. I am looking forward to many more miles with the COWS in the new
year to come.
