Spent the weekend in Huntersville with family. Susan then drove me 30 min. to Salisbury Sunday morning where I joined up with 10 other rando friends for my second stab at Brushy Mtn. on New Years Day. 35 degrees at the start and we roll easy for 35 miles to the first control. My only goal was to beat my last years time of 10 hrs. and 38 min. There was too much climbing to think of finishing with the front group today. I was the third rider to reach the base, and the 6th to reach the top. Gotta loose some weight. Down the mountain and into North Wilkesboro. Most riders grabbed some lunch but I made do with Convenient store food. I couldn't eat a lot because last year I tossed part of my lunch going back up Brushy Mtn. Anyway, I was the first to head back up the mountain. I was caught by a couple friends, Joel and Mike D. before I reached the summit. I then immediately dropped them off the front. I did catch back up on the decent that was a total blast. We were later joined by a fourth rider around mile 95 at our third and final stop. These guys would continuously drop me on the climbs and I'd reel them in on the downhill's. We had a good tailwind and mostly flat for the last leg so I was able to stay with them to the finish at 4:25pm. 8 hours and 55 minutes. Blew away my last years time by 1 hour and 43 min. 130 miles and 8,600 feet of accent. Another great day on the bike with friends.
