Only two: Turbo Dan and myself for the am ride. I knew it was going to be a smoker and it was, given the distance that was hoped for. The chosen route was Pinetops by way of Davis Mercer road and back in 42. I thought it would be a little over 40, turns out to be over 50. Anyway, headed out rotating 6 minute pulls, both of us feeling good. Wind wasn't too much of an issue until the right turn on Davis Mercer. Once on 42 the wind was both friend and foe with the constant shifting from SE to E. Anyway it was about 8 - 10 miles outside Wilson that I realized that I probably hadn't eaten enough throughout the ride when I could hold 20 - 22 on the "flats" but didn't have much for the rolls. Sent Dan on ahead as he wanted to continue at a 22+ pace which I knew I couldn't hold at that point. Not sure which way he went after he crossed 301. I came back in by way of Ward Blvd. Turbo no doubt had well over a 20 avg, I managed to avg just a smidge over 20. All in all a good ride, despite "hitting the wall", "bonking", "blowing up" or whatever other quaint technical term you wish to apply to the situation. First training ride for the BSG is in the books.
