Subject: [COWs] Belews Lake tri report
Date: Sat, Apr 14, 2012 4:07 pm
Sounds like the CoWs have had a busy day. Here is what my play time consisted
of:I headed to Greensboro last night and had a great pasta dinner with some
good friends. They were nice enough to let me crash and did not mind that I had
to get up at 5:20 to head to Belews lake for an 8:00 start. Got there with
plenty of time to spare after setting up everything. Official comes to me and
says my bike can't be where it is although this was my spot. The way the fence
was setup at the end of the row was gonna cause everyone in that row to be
cramped. So he bumped me to the best spot on the play ground. Up front with not
a soul around me. Great way to start the day. :). Water temp was 66.4 so it was
wetsuit legal and thats always good news for me. This race was a staggered
start another positive. Ever 10 secs they would let 2 go. I left at 8:25. For
once I felt great on a swim. Swam a 1500 and I was out of the water and on the
bike in less then 30min. I think I came of of the water in just over 26min my
best 1500 ever. Thank you wetsuit. Out of transition on the bike is a nice (not
sonmuch)short climb maybe 50 yards but it was enough to wake my legs up.
Normally the bike is my best leg but the first loop of 2 was not great...just
could not find the legs. Loop 2 was great and I finish 27 miles at 21.7avg.
Time to run......my least fav part. Shoes on and I off....damn there's that
hill again. Ugh ok so the wedsite said this was a flat run course....not sure
what roads they were talking about but it was not so flat. I felt pretty good
and made it through without needing medical help. (sure wish my marathon had
felt this good lol)Came across the finish 2:32:57. I was shooting for under
2:30:00 so I was happy with that. This was a double points race so there were
some really fast racers there today. Jon Anderson being one of them. He did
great as always. I finished 85 of like 500 and 13 of 39 age group.
Nice ride Bob and Steve!Good luck Monday KP!DC

Subject: [COWs] Goldsboro Relay for Life Ride
Date: Sat, Apr 14, 2012 2:41 pm

Steven Brake and I went to Goldsboro today for the Seyboro Cyclists ride to
support Relay for Life. It was a cool start to the ride with temperatures
in the mid-40s. The ride headed east from the north side of Goldsboro with
the midpoint of the ride to be in Eureka. Steven and I hung with the front
group hoping that Goldsboro rules were in force. This turned out to be a
huge mistake. As we made the first turn, the pace immediately went to
21-22. As the pullers changed, the pace kept sliding up. The Seyboro
guys usually do double pace lines and, when my turn came, I was paired with a
Seyboro guy. He sees a long 2% grade an proceeds to push the pace to
27. I fall back and the rest of the group also slowed. We hung on to
the front for the first 25 miles and then got more sane. By the second
rest stop, we picked up a few others and limped to the end into a strong
headwind.

Thanks to Steven for hanging back with me. He was strong enough to
leave our little group if he wanted. His mountain training with DC last
weekend paid off.

I’m attaching the route; unfortunately, I missed the first two
miles. http://connect.garmin..com/activity/167961513

The words for the day were Wheeeee for the start; Whoops for not backing
off the pace early; and Ouch because I’m hurting. Still, a fun day on
someone else’s playground.
