Subject: [COWs] Fletcher Flyer Century

It’s hard to follow up Tim’s (as usual) awesome ride report with a report
on a mere century, but here goes. My brother and I met in Fletcher, NC
this morning to ride the Fletcher Flyer century. This charity ride has 30,
50, metric and century options and calls itself the flattest century in Western
North Carolina. It was hard to determine the number of riders that
gathered (between 600 and 1000, I’m guessing), but at times the road into the
park looked like the end scene of “Field of Dreams” with an unending line of
cars.

The route was a mix of “flat” roads and hill climbing. No mountain
climbs, but there were several long, moderate climbs and a couple of 18% very
short climbs. It was a fun day that reminded me why I enjoyed climbing in
the old days...it was the descents. I really enjoyed the long freewheeling
rolls that allowed recovery after the climbs. Of course, there was always
another climb with the vertical piece totaling 4360 feet. The weather was
almost perfect...started at 50 degrees with no wind and ended at 75 degrees
with
a 15 mph tailwind.

As Jim would say, I fun day on the bike.
