My mileage for this year matches last years mileage for the same loops. Maybe
if you did a pull or two you would have had a higher average speed. How man
speeding tickets did you get?

Cool, 2 reports confirm we were on the same ride, but you rode further and
faster. How'd you do that?

  Goldsboro Double Century report...Second wave

Tim, Jon O. and I continued on and did loop 2 which took us on the infamous
Hookerton route. This loop turned many riders into marshmallows last year due
to the heat and wind. This year was different because the temperature was
moderate, but the wind had picked up considerably from Loop 1. Once again, the
smart play would have been to sit in the back and let the others do the hard
work. Lucas and Jon O played this strategy well and I finally learned it after
one more pull (no more speeding tickets). A new feature this year was the
"petit peleton" that formed at the back as riders struggled to keep up due to
the wind. Lucas and I finished with the lead group and Jon O finished slightly
behind. Only one accident during this loop...a rider failed to unclip at a
stop sign and rolled over onto his back uninjured (the bike was uninjured too).

A new riding term was coined during the ride: Performance Enhancing Terrain.
This is also known as a downhill. We believe that the ICU will find a way to
make PET illegal.

This was a fun ride on a beautiful day in the neighborhood. The two loop
group finished with 122.22 miles at a 17.9 mph average. The Garmin data is:

Bob L, Lucas, John O and I head out on loop one, Tom and Mary, some of Lucas'
rando buddies join in. Group of approximately 40 riders, comfortable pace,
cool weather light wind no humidity. Looks like the group is in for a great
day. About 8 miles in as the pace has settled and stabilized, one in the group
locks up his rear wheel causing a sudden loss of speed, only alert riders and
good bike skills keep everyone upright, it could have taken out many riders.
No other excitement, Bob, John and I all take turns at the front. After sag
stop John takes another pull, as does Bob. Bob gets an attaboy for a slow a
acceleration after a stop sign, he gets so excited that he gets a speeding
ticket from the ride boss on the next climb and slithers to the back in shame.
The three of us should have learned from the master, John and Bob two pulls,
Jim one pull, Lucas zero pulls, he is only one to figure out with that many
riders just sit in at the back and leave the driving to others.
I left after loop one the others continued on, back home by 11:00
Great day to be on the bike,
  Jim
