Round 2 featured another big group. Kaiser, DC, General and I returned for more action after some grub at McD's. We're joined by Doc, Wally, Dale, Chicken farmer and AJ. Horne's Church all the way to Liles Rd. I'm glad everybody didn't follow the pace set by DC. Left on Liles to 581, through Bailey, Left on Old Raleigh. Kaiser ends up with the monster pull award after taking down the three sisters with ease. Weatherman was riding the wrong way! Doc throws down a breakaway on Airport Rd. buying some TV time for his sponsors. He is reeled in by the peloton then Dale gets wheel sucker award after grabbing the wheel of this big guy passing on his moped. Cruising 35/38 he leaves the peloton in another zip code. He is also polka dot jersey award winner as this lead-out made him the lone rider up Target Hill. Correction, this just in. Race committee has just stripped the polka dot jersey from Dale for using illegal drafting of team vehicle/moped. He still retains wheel sucker award so a good day all the same. Maybe we'll throw in a most aggressive rider award. That was a cool move. Round 2 group edges out Round 1 group for faster ride average, though a bit shorter route at 32 miles. 72+ miles for members of both groups. A most delightful day on the playground. Recovery is taking awhile.
----- Original Message ----- From: Jeff Glover To: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, December 08, 2012 2:05 PM Subject: [COWs] Saturday 10 am Ride A strong herd gathered at DD for an early edition of the Saturday Ride. Nick, Bob, Tim, Kaiser, DC, LR and The General rolled out of DD for a slightly modified 40 mile Whirligig ride. As we rolled out Chad chased the group down to join in the festivities rounding out the group at an even eight. Cloudy skies, temps slightly cooler than forecast and breeze set the stage as the group headed out Nash to Packhouse, Bloomery on to Lamm across 42 on to Quaker (same road just a name change) to Wiggins Mill. Rolling on Wiggins Mill toward Acid Park, Chad takes the pull out in the open and dead into the wind. It was his early Christmas gift to the group, thanks. After a rest stop at Wiggins mill the peloton continued on Willing Works Rd, to Lloyd to Governor Hunt to 42, Rock Ridge School Rd. A brief directional confusion by LR at Rock Ridge Simms Rd (a ploy to come off the pull) slowed up the group a bit. The ride continued on Rock Ridge Simms on into Simms were another brief half at the store at the intersection of 264 Alt allowed the group to reform. Moving out on Simms Rd saw the sunshine show itself and warm things up a bit. Turning on the West Horne's Church saw the tempo pick up a bit as the group took advantage of a tail wind. On to Nash and back in to DD completed todays early ride. A solid tempo ride, with the group holding together. Solid work on the front by all. The ride ended up with 38.9 miles and an average just over 20. Post ride the group fellowshipped at DD while several made plans for the 1 o’clock ride with some refueling at Mickey D’s. Looking forward to that ride report. A great group and great day to be on a bike. LR -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "CyclistsOfWilson-COWs" group.
