Cygwin uses OpenSSL 3.0 LTS, which has a planned EOL of September 2026. An update to the new 3.5 LTS will be considered after the 3.6 non-LTS version gets released in October 2025.
This release provides the latest OpenSSL 3 LTS release and uses the Fedora 39 patches (without FIPS and foreign CPU architecture support). The following packages have been uploaded to the Cygwin distribution: * openssl-3.0.17-1 * openssl-perl-3.0.17-1 * libssl3-3.0.17-1 * libssl-devel-3.0.17-1 The following MinGW64 packages are available: * mingw64-i686-openssl-3.0.17-1 * mingw64-x86_64-openssl-3.0.17-1 The OpenSSL toolkit provides support for secure communications between machines. OpenSSL includes a certificate management tool and shared libraries which provide various cryptographic algorithms and protocols.
