I only know here in Brazil some people (mainly on servers) use US keyboards, most ABNT2, and probably a very few ABNT as I don't see any on the stores... Doing a search on Google I found the only difference is that ABNT doesn't have the "Alt Gr" key, but I don't know if the information is correct. I've been using ABNT2 since 1997 on Linux and never configured it as pt. xf86config from XFree86 >=4.0 always configured it as br / abnt2, and doesn't do any autodetection.
