NO, NO, NO! Please don't do that. Remove the DLLs you copied and instead add C:\cygwin\bin to your PATH. > If I run "startxwin.bat" instead, I don't get the dll error. That's because startxwin.bat adds C:\cygwin\bin to the PATH. > But when I try to run startx, I get: > > > winCheckDisplayNumber - Cygwin/X is already running on display 0 > > > > Fatal server error: > > InitOutput - Duplicate invocation on display number: 0. Exiting. And what's cryptic about that message? You've already run X on display 0 -- use display 1 if you want another instance. > If I try "startxdmcp.bat", I get a similar result: > > > mkdir: Cannot create /tmp/.X11-unix with root ownership > > winCheckDisplayNumber - Cygwin/X is already running on display 0 > > > > Fatal server error: > > InitOutput - Duplicate invocation on display number: 0. Is this bad? Shouldn't be. Please see the Cygwin problem reporting guidelines at <http://cygwin.com/problems.html> for the right way of reporting your installation information (particularly the part about attaching the output of "cygcheck -svr").
