I made a little experiment and the above sentence is not true: if I start XWindows from an icon/shortcut (using "C:\cygwin\bin\run.exe -p /usr/X11R6/bin XWin -multiwindow -clipboard -silent-dup-error -dpi 100") XWin starts fine but my .xinitrc (and .xsession) is not used... XWin does not know what user started it.
