Feature described here: https://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/manual/html_node/elisp/File-Locks.html To prevent of special symlink creation I disabled that feature: (setq create-lockfiles nil) So no need to waste time on TRAMP mode if it is supported natively by Cygwin!
