Hi,
Or: Has anything changed since I have been away (since W7) ? (Yes, Ha, ha,
of course) ... but I am referring to "Corinna's descr schema" - Ch3 UG.
Sorry for the weird e-mail address ... My name is Henri van de Water.
Bought a laptop and installed W11 (in order to be able to help my younger
brother with W11) ...
... and to satisfy my own curiosity, I installed Cygwin ...
- writing this from Linux
- have been away from Cygwin since W7
- irregularly skimming the Cygwin Mailing list
Back to W11 and Cygwin:
- created a local account, named Henri (next to "Gally", the MS Account
that is forced upon you since W11 24H2) - yes, I disabled DE ...
- using the out-of-the box /etc/nsswitch.conf file
- no /etc/{passwd,group} files
Now in W7, the following was possible:
- net user Henri /comment:'<cygwin group="users"/>'
After restarting Cygwin ...
- id would show 'Users' as the primary group ...
id -g would show: 545
id -gn would show: Users
- getent passwd | grep Henri would show: Henri:*:<...>:545:U-...
- mkpasswd -l | grep Henri would show: well, see previous line
This also applies to W11, except for the id command ...
The id command is still showing None as the primary group ... Huh?
What did I miss? (why has not anyone else been complaining about this?)
R. Henri
