They are properly owned and properly modded - they work via NFS on all the other unixen, be they Linux, SunOS HP-UX, Aix or Tru64. The mode is usually 0600, with the group set to 'staff' or equivelent. The privs as transmitted by samba are screwed up a bit, though. They become 0644.
