Not necessarily but "setup.exe" is a bit anal about allowing you to uninstall
more than one package if uninstalling one requires you to cycle through the
state of "Install" and another that you're also trying to uninstall is a
dependency. I expect this is the situation you're seeing.
Frankly, should I just use MSYS and MinGW instead to do compiling
instead of trying to use the Cygwin packages?
That depends on what you want the compiler for.

As to the problems you had with the install and postinstall scripts, I'd
recommend pulling SFU out of your path and trying again.
