FWIW, I just went back to the older binutils packages, that they have: SEARCH_DIR("/mingw/mingw32/lib"); SEARCH_DIR("/mingw/lib"); SEARCH_DIR("/usr/local/lib"); SEARCH_DIR("/lib"); SEARCH_DIR("/usr/lib"); Defined in the ldscripts\i386pe.x. So it's been this way for quite some time.
