**** P U B L I C A T I O N S **** <*> NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF JUSTICE (NIJ) * Random Gunfire Problems and Gunshot Detection Systems Random gunfire is a significant problem in many large cities throughout the United States. This document summarizes the findings of field studies of two gunshot detection systems: Trilon Technology's ShotSpotter(TM) system, which was used by the Redwood City, California, police department, and Alliant Techsystems Inc.'s SECURES(TM), which police installed in a neighborhood with high levels of random gunfire in Dallas, Texas. This Research in Brief also outlines how the police used the technology and what officers working in the study sites thought about the gunshot detection systems.
