Referees start the count for 'Boxer'
At the formal rollout of the GTK/MRAV Gepanzertes
Transportkraftfahrzeug/Multi-Role
Armoured Vehicle in Munich on 12 December 2002, the trinational 8
x 8
armored carrier was officially named 'Boxer'. (A representative of
prime
contractor ARTEC, a consortium comprising Alvis Vickers,
Krauss-Maffei
Wegmann, Rheinmetall, and Stork NV, noted the designation derives
from
the German Army tradition of applying dogs' names to this category
of
fighting vehicle, rather than from boxing.) The event, staged at
the final
assembly plant operated by Krauss-Maffei Wegmann, was witnessed by
ARTEC
senior management personnel as well as governmental and user
representatives
from the British, Dutch, and German defense administrations.
