Here's the status: I decided to try seeing what the state of affairs was with just moving my current stack of patches over to cython-closures. It turns out it's not so bad, but there's still some trouble with type analysis/inference, not related to closures, but instead to the other code in the closures branch. I'm going to sit down right now and clean up these patches and the patches against sage and push, so that it's no longer a mystery where we're at.
