Dear Jonah,

without any doubt there are valuable treasures in the Public Records, 1780-1937
of the "Jewish Congregation. Czernowitz (Bukovina)":

https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/1387600?availability=Family%20History%20Library

In it there are governmental decrees, correspondence of the Jewish Congregation
of Chernivtsi with institutions and its members, and in the years after the
First World War the receipts for the membership fees of its members.

Unfortunately, it is tremendously difficult to separate the wheat from the
chaff, a Sysiphus task.

Warmest wishes!

Edgar Hauster

Hi Jonah,

I’ve noticed this record group and it’s a very lengthy series of records on
multiple digitized microfilms. But I’ve never investigated to see what’s
there. Maybe others know?

All the best,
Bruce

Hi Bruce,

Thanks a lot for your quick reply, although I imagine most of the
records I would be interested in would be from the 19th century.

Might you be able to tell me a bit more about what is contained in the
Jewish congregation's public records (1780-1937) found on
FamilySearch?
https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/1387600?availability=Family%20History%20Library

Perhaps something of interest can be gleaned from those.

Gratefully,
Jonah
