Czernowitzers... It took more than three quarters of a century and a lot of - mainly external - persuasion, but at least in the recent past the Romanian Government's perception of the Holocaust has changed significantly. The responsibility of Greater Romania under the dictatorship of Ion Antonescu in the specific Romanian Holocaust is clearly acknowledged, and even more, the tendencies to deny, relativize or downplay Romania's role have diminished. Thus, the leading Romanian historians are in line with their foreign colleagues.
