These photographs are most interesting because my mother's high school
was Liceul Oltea Doamna. She was born in 1923, and I think she might
have been there a few years later than these pictures - from around
1934. The school was in the Landhaus Gasse, on the corner of the
Turkengasse. I visited it during our visit in 2006. The school is now
the Romanian school in Czernowitz, I met the headmaster.
The headmistress of the school was Dr Silvia Balan. My mother
remembered her with great warmth. Interestingly, although the current
Romanian school in Czernowitz is an entirely different institution from
the pre-war Liceul Oltea Doamna, and there are no connections at all
apart from occupying the same building, the headmaster told me that he
had heard of Dr Balan.
I wonder if she might be the lady at the centre of some of these
pictures? Berti, I wonder what you think about this?
Berti, I would also like to ask you - did you find the letters "LOD" on
one of these photographs? I could not find them.
It is a shame (or perhaps it is just as well!) that this auction has
ended. I might have been tempted to bid!

It seems to be from Cernauti 1931.
I wonder what school it was and if any of you may identify anyone.
