Dear fellow members,

I want to share with you my autobiographical graphic novel REPLAY, which is
being published in France by Delcourt this week.

It depicts Czernowitz in the period 1900-1914 -- the city of my
grandfather, Adolph Mechner, until the outbreak of World War I sent him to
the Russian front as a teenage conscript. After the war, he became a doctor
and family man in Vienna, until the Anschluss of 1938 made the Mechners
exiles again -- in Cuba, France, and finally New York.

The third generation is my own, less life-or-death story as an American kid
making video games in the 1980s and 90s (Prince of Persia), then moving to
France with my own children in 2016, thus "replaying" our family's
emigration from Europe in reverse.

You can read details about REPLAY (and preview the first 25 pages) at my
website:

The graphic novel is available from publisher Delcourt and French
booksellers via the website links (or at your favorite local comic
bookshop, for those in France).

I hope the portrayal of Czernowitz, based on my grandfather's memoirs (and
the photographic and historical references that our Edgar Hauster
generously helped me gather), awakens good memories.

The book was released yesterday. Here is an early review:
