Czernowitzers…

Stage 2 of my this year‘s motorcycle ride east-southeastbound.

"Shut up, or you'll go to Bautzen." was the phrase used in the former German
Democratic Republic (GDR) if you dared to make a joke about the regime. Bautzen
II prison, infamous as a "Stasi Jail" is still there as a memorial, but today
Bautzen shows its best side. The more than 1000-year-old city of [17!] towers,
on a granite plateau high above the Spree Valley, has spruced itself up and is
celebrating the "Budyske nalěćo - Bautzen Spring" in the German-Sorbian
tradition:

Of all the bands on the numerous open air stages, I was most excited by the
Banda Comunale from Dresden. Who would have thought that Bautzen has so much to
offer; not me! Check it out on YouTube!

Onward to the east!
