Czernowitzers…

Quite a few of you are following me virtually on my tour “Going East by Heading
West” and sending me inspiring comments. Others will think okay it's a nice
travelogue, all well and good, but too off-topic. Well, my stay in Vienna is as
on-topic as it gets.

The TU Wien Archive is a real treasure trove. Dr. Paulus Ebner, the Head of the
Archive, and his team were extremely friendly, competent and unbureaucratic in
making the archives accessible to me, the first highlight of my stay in Vienna.

The - chronologically - second highlight of my trip was my meeting with Julie
Dawson, a friend and doctoral candidate at the Institute of Contemporary
History at the University of Vienna. Her lecture <„Uncertainty is a torture
impossible to bear for long”: Examining Jewish Life in Postwar Romania>
emphasising the diaries of Blanka Lebzelter from Bukovina, which she
discovered, is both fascinating and enlightening.

As you can see, even after the 16th stage of my tour, Bukovina is still
on-topic. Stay tuned!
