Edgar,
Congratulations on yet another fascinating road trip (and armchair virtual tour
for all of us).  I am glad you made it home safe and sound.  I am sorry to hear
of the Russian attack on Czernowitz.  When/where does this all end
??????????????  I have really enjoyed your photos and commentary. Thank you for
so generously sharing these trips with all of us here in this group!  Lucky us.
Sincerely,
Leah Snider

Czernowitzrers...

Ten days ago, I met with Czernowitz poet Igor Pomerantsev in Lublin, Poland,
where he spoke at a book presentation about his childhood in Czernowitz, about
Paul Celan, about himself as a Russian-speaking poet, about the humor in his
works, and about the writers of Czernowitz in wartime.

With black humor, Igor joked that the people of Czernowitz had developed a kind
of guilt complex because they had so far remained relatively unaffected by
Putin's war of aggression against Ukraine. We can see how quickly fun can turn
deadly serious in the fact that Russia attacked a residential area in
Czernowitz with missiles and drones on Thursday. At least two people were
killed and at least fourteen others were injured, some critically. The
international media in Germany and Austria are reporting on this in depth.

As you know, contrary to my original plan, I did not manage to get to
Czernowitz. On the one hand, the timing was no longer feasible, and on the
other hand, unlike Igor Pomerantsev, I considered the situation dangerous, and
I hate to say that I was unfortunately right. In the meantime, my motorcycle
tour has come to an end after 43 days and 6,421 kilometers through 10 countries:

The motto of my tour was “European Hotspots,” but I hope that Czernowitz does
not become a hotspot of this criminal and revisionist war of aggression.
