Hi Sunitha,
It is a pity I did not find your project when I started to work on mine. I read
your article today and I have one remark – I think your "open world" assumption
for the mapping can have one drawback. The drawback is that the legacy
applications working with the mapped database will not see the triples added to
the "separate native RDF store". They will not see the duplicate entries and
will not see on time the triples added to the RDF store to be consolidated
later. So it is not clear that the "open world" assumption of the Semantic Web
is applicable to the RDB2RDF mapping.
In the case of D2RQ/Update, the duplicate entries are not allowed – the mapped
properties are considered as owl:FunctionalProperty, except for the case of
link tables. When an attempt to insert a duplicate entry is discovered, an
error is returned to the application.
I would be glad to cooperate with you on the D2RQ++ or D2RQ/Update.
Best Regards,
Vadim

wow, very interesting.
Is the source code of D2RQ++ and D2R++ Server publically available?
Are you still actively working on the project?
If yes, maybe it would make sense if Vadim and you would join forces.
What do you think?
Cheers,
Chris

Dear Dr. Bizer,
Just wanted to let you know that we have been working on an Update-aware
extension to D2RQ (and its associated front-end D2R-Server) as well since early
this year. We have called our work D2RQ++ (and D2R++-Server) and have published
preliminary results in the following paper
Sunitha Ramanujam, Vaibhav Khadilkar, Latifur Khan, Steven Seida, Murat
Kantarcioglu, Bhavani Thuraisingham, "Bi-directional Translation of Relational
Data into Virtual RDF Stores," icsc, pp.268-276, 2010 IEEE Fourth International
Conference on Semantic Computing, 2010
Needless to say, we would be very interested in receiving feedback from you if
you get a chance to peruse our work in the above paper.
Thank you and Regards,
Sunitha Ramanujam

Hi everybody,
Vadim Eisenberg has released a D2RQ/Update and D2R/Update Server Extension to
the D2RQ Framework which allows you to use SPARQL/Update to change/delete/add
data to a D2R-mapped relation database. D2RQ/Update uses the same mapping used
by D2RQ, no additional information is required. The extension takes into
account the database constraints, such as primary/foreign keys and non-nullable
columns.
For information about the extension is found here:
http://d2rqupdate.cs.technion.ac.il/
A tutorial on how to use the extension is available here:
http://d2rqupdate.cs.technion.ac.il/tutorial
Really great work and a first step in evolving D2RQ into a complete read/write
gateway for working with relational databases over the Web.
Cheers,
Chris
