        This is a subject that comes up all the time. "Stable" means that  
nothing new has been added since the last full point release. In this  
case, that's almost 6 months ago.

        While 'stable' is far less likely to have bugs, it is almost  
guaranteed not to work with anything current. The fact is that we are  
constantly adding functionality, but because of the current release  
practices, none of that enhanced funcitonality can be introduced into  
the 'stable' branch.

        This practice has already been discussed ad nauseam on the dev list.  
I don't like it, but that's the way it is.
