Josh, Thanks for writing, you bring up excellent points. I'm not quoting you, however, because I'm not responding directly to anything you are saying, but I wanted to just say that I've been thinking for years that I'd love to pick a vertical app, get funding, hire some developers (or partner with them), hire some admin and marketing staff, and build something killer. Then, pick a different vertical market and do the same thing, using the same building blocks. Cross-platform vertical applications, to wean businesses from having to choose Microsoft, and to put money in our pockets in the meantime...
Your idea of having pre-canned bizobjs is excellent. Because another part of my vision is having different levels of services we provide. One of which would be a "build your own basic application, for free or a small fee". Then, they want something else added so we can charge for custom enhancements. Also, custom enhancements to the vertical apps would be part of the business plan. First off, we need a business plan. Second off, we need to secure funding for the first fragile years. Anybody interested in pursuing this with me, please make yourself known and we'll see what happens. Part of the reason I started building Dabo was to have a basic framework upon which to build different cathedrals and bazaars. BTW, as far as partnering goes, I think the golden number of partners is 3. Any more than that, and it gets unwieldy, but if it must be more than that it needs to be 5. Odd numbers keep decision gridlock from happening. -- pkm ~ http://paulmcnett.com _______________________________________________ Post Messages to: [email protected] Subscription Maintenance: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/dabo-users Searchable Archives: http://leafe.com/archives/search/dabo-users This message: http://leafe.com/archives/byMID/dabo-users/[EMAIL PROTECTED]
