I'm not sure what the interface for MySQL does but I can tell you I update postgres all the time from pgadmin3 and SQL Workbench/J (java app) while my Dabo app/s are open and issue a requery() and it just works. In fact I just did it. I tried updates and inserts then issued a requery() - just works.
