after a resync, remake. This was roughly coincident with the start of your fail reports.
I 'fixed' it here by redoing configure, with all the reentrant functions *_r disabled.
Ive been meaning to try a few combos, and send a patch to hints/linux.sh, but other things interceded,
and it could be a deeper problem anyway.
