I ran a limited run (I was the one that couldn't this to work on cygwin 
or Solaris*, remember?) =-)

I resync'd and am rerunning with all the configs.

*turns out the environment is completely whacked. I'm using someone 
else's machines, and apparently they haven't tried to compile anything 
since 1994. =-)

I'll post another report shortly, I hope.
