UML is user mode linux which lets me run linux in a virtual machine under linux. There is a tool called umbluilder which lest me easily build the virtual discs so that I can simulate a "clean" install of various Linuxes (so my modifications to various libraries and system configurations will not upset the test.) My UML is build with Red Hat 8 RPMs with all updates (as of a couple of days ago) > > I tried a test run of 5.8.x on it and all combinations failed on > > op/alarm.t. > > 5.8.x : did you mean actually the maintenance or the bleading-edge > version of perl ? (resp. 5.8.1-to-be and 5.9.0-to-be) I was running 5.8.1-to-be > > If having smokecurrent.sh run for 5.8.x on Red Hat 8 is any use (and if > > you want me to forward my failure mail for my test run) then just say the > > word. > > "the word". OK, I'll set it going now.
