A Reflection on Today's Scripture:
Do you ever wonder if God will answer your prayers?
Twenty-four years ago to this very day, my wife and mother of our
nine children, only in her mid-forties, lay in a hospital bed after
hearing the pronouncement by her doctor: "Yes, it is cancer...."
In those days, cancer seemed to bring a death sentence with it and
momentarily the woman was filled with fear and terror as she thought
of her children without a mother. She silently prayed asking God for
strength as she picked up her Bible from beside her bed and opened to
Isaiah 41. She was stunned as she read: "Fear not, I will help
you....I the Lord who grasps you by the right hand....You shall
rejoice in the Lord."
God was speaking directly to her. The words were exactly what she
needed to hear and she knew beyond a doubt she would be healed. Our
loving Lord, He who is the same yesterday, today and forever, wishes
to speak His words to us during this holy season.
Are we listening?
Open our ears,
Open our hearts,
O Infant Babe of Bethlehem!
