Having belonged to a Breed club for way too many
years.......

I now encourage people to join an ~All Breed~ club
in their area.

The Great Dane club I belonged to spent way too many
hours on patting themselves on the back and I feel in
my own opinion did nothing to welcome new puppy
people into their circle. Actually shunning them.

Our club did have the highest members of owners with
dogs in the the top twenty. Or should I say the top snooty.

I was very fortunate to have had access to two members who
took us under their wings and graciously showed us the ins
and outs of breeding and showing. This is how it should be.

I have found that the All Breed clubs are far more interesting
and do a heck of a lot more for fundraising for health issues
and the such. Educational programs where always available.

Along with this, changing to an all breed handler
made my showing a far more exciting time and actually
benefited my dogs show career. This puts you in a new
circle of friends and you will learn a lot more.

I too have made it to the top, but I always take the time to
help the new puppy people, for that is what a hobby is
all about, gaining experience and then ~sharing~ this
knowledge with the newcomers. Sharing your mistakes
along with your accomplishments, will help these new
people from having to make these same mistakes.

I will always be grateful to the couple that took the time
when I was new, Chris and BJ Glass. They are gone now
but never does a day go by that when I look at my Danes
that I don't think of them.

We ~need~ more experienced Dane people like them to
educate and help the new people so our Danes legacy
does not fall apart.

Thank,
Rhiannon
