I believe that opinions on this subject vary.

Git itself (upstream sources) contains a suitable replacement -- just
build it with ``MOZILLA_SHA1'' set (or somesuch, I don't have the
sources handy).
I haven't looked at the new build myself, but I understand that we no
longer build Git ourselves. It's therefore no longer our problem, but
that of the Git people. It would be great, however, if Darcs'
configure script could work out on its own whether Git already
contains SHA1 routines.
