Yeah; thats a really big problem; plugins for CVS and SVN have the same problem since they have the same licensing. Oh; wait; there is no problem... > This also means that if I hook up darcs and the darcs eclipse plugin > together > (which has so far proved to be a non-trivial task...), I am technically > forbidden to give the resulting setup to a friend. You are trying to solve the wrong problem here. First of all distro's ship multiple pieces of software to do what you want to do. So all you have to do is follow the same rules as any linux distribution does. Or are you saying that eclipse does not ship on the same linux CD as cvs? (or darcs for that matter). They do, so it surely is possible. But the real problem lies in the plugin that obviously can't simply work with a darcs in its path, if it gave you so much trouble. This is really trivial stuff here, go fix the plugin (since its open source) instead! > I am willing to do the "contacting authors" work. Well; I'd suggest getting some official statements on reuse of their work. For instance; is it legal to re-use any of darcs' code in a different GPL-ed work? Or get code from a GPL-ed work? And how about reusing a piece of CPL-ed code in darcs? I'm guessing thats 3 times no, but some more definite details are needed (i.e. legal advice) as your personal opinion is useless in court. -- Thomas Zander
