although not able to implement this myself I fully agree with you. During
my tests with darcs over the internet using ssh and pushing patches to
server I've found darcs push hangs sometime just because of strange issue
of ssh connection which hangs, and in this case some feedback would be
good to have.

Just as I was about to give up and hit control-c thinking I had some sort
exponential issue happening it finished.
A simple "Pushing patch [x/n]" while its working would have given me the warm
fuzzy I was needing to know all was well.
