IIRC Yitzchak's problems arise from running a Debian Etch server, which
supports only Darcs 1.0.9 out of the box. If that server is upgrade to
Debian 5.0 when it is released[0], he'll be able to easily use Darcs 2
everywhere.
(I realize that upgrading to Debian 5.0 might be undesirable for reasons
unrelated to Darcs; people who will continue to run Etch after it
becomes oldstable are invited to help produce a "backport". I'm happy
to collaborate on a backport, but not to create and maintain one alone.)
The change to darcs-2 repositories by default had to happen sometime,
and it was inevitably going to require some sites to upgrade carefully.
But remember that it offers a concrete functionality improvement for new
users (who are the ones least likely to know how to change the
repository format). I think backing out this change would only cause
more confusion, and I don't think it's unreasonable for sites like
Yitzchak's to hold off on a 2.0.2 to 2.1.0 upgrade until they have got
rid of 1.0.9.
[0] Debian doesn't strictly adhere to a release schedule other than
"when it's ready", but see http://release.debian.org/ for "recent"
release updates.
