Hi everybody,

The 2.4 release experience is teaching us to work harder on quality
control. There are at least three pieces to this puzzle:

 * Policy: support only last two GHC releases
 * Coordination: staging releases
 * Automation: buildbot!

We are using buildbot to catch a lot of bugs early on, but we still need
to be much more systematic about buildbot coverage. We need your help!

As a bare minimum, we should cover the 32 bit versions of Windows, MacOS
X and Linux, with the last two major GHC versions for each one. These
are still very modest objectives, but it would still be an improvement
over our predominantly Linux-centric setup.

  Windows GHC 6.10 (Petr)
  Windows GHC 6.12 <-- HELP NEEDED

  MacOS X GHC 6.10 (Thorkil? currently GHC 6.8)
  MacOS X GHC 6.12 <-- HELP NEEDED

  Linux   GHC 6.10 (Petr)
  Linux   GHC 6.12 (Petr)

Can we have at least two volunteers please? We need somebody with a
Windows box and one with a Mac. In the future, we could branch out into
64 bit and also into multiple versions of each OS. But let's attend to
this core set for now.

All you need is (i) a machine that's almost always on and (ii) some
willingness to administer your machine when something should
occasionally go wrong. If you're willing to spare of its cycles (and
some of your attention), we can help you with the technical aspects of
setting it up. For a preview of what's entailed, see

  http://wiki.darcs.net/Development/BuildBot

It's basically just 3 steps to get started.

Help wanted!  Thanks!

Eric
