I think this thread has reached consensus that we should enable
witnesses for the library (only) in 2.5, so I've submitted

a good time to shout if you do object!
One last suggestion for benchmarking (should probably be in 2.5): how
easy would it be to have cabal build a (second) simple darcs binary that
uses the library? That way we could benchmark this darcs-lib.exe against
darcs.exe just in case there are any funny performance regressions.
