It seems that the video is treated by the cpu... I do the same as you on a laptop & desktop (ubuntu studio & nvidia driver) the cpu is used by 8% max, the gpu a lot more. You had an installation's problem, i think. Ubuntu studio need some tweaks to work correctly.
