Most of my exported jpg and tif images are really needed as temporary
pieces prior to going to the printer, a web site or a slide show. After
using the exported items I generally relegate them to the trash. On a
couple of times now I have deleted jpgs outside of dt and run into
serious problems.

With even a single jpg missing from the database (with or without its
xmp file) the entire db becomes corrupt and then refuses to display only
raw files. Even the 'missing' jpg shows up in the file manager making it
really hard to track down the offending piece. If the jpg+xmp have been
deleted then at least a skull is indicated but removing the skull does
not repair the problem and still jpg files are shown like-it-or-not. The
only solution is to totally recreate the entire db!!

OK, I learned from this experience but wonder if the db could be
somewhat more forgiving. If files are unaccounted for would it not be
possible to provide a more gracious failure. A skull in an empty place
is fine if I can then delete the offending item and carry on.

Possibly another option could be that exported files could be 'flagged'
as either in or out of the db (I am assuming that such a situation
already exists when exporting to an email).
