I've just done a quick build of darktable where I have removed
IOP_FLAGS_ONE_INSTANCE and add IOP_FLAGS_SUPPORTS_BLENDING to exposure
and it works great, except for the color selector which activates the
autoexposure.

Also, it seems that in some parts of the picture, highlights goes
crazy and takes a yellow tint.

But once those bugs will be corrected, this definitely will be a good
feature if it's activated by default.
