Hi Thomas,

are you really referring to a "snapshot" in darktable notion? We have a 
feature of that name in darkroom mode and it is more or less a 
screenshot saved as a bitmap.

Reading your feature request sounds more like you want a history stack 
"duplicate" automatically generated. The current history stack is saved 
and you continue your work with a duplicate of it.
